I’ve been reading a lot of 9/11 literature this year for reasons best not discussed, but American Doll is one of very few that shows the way in which the attacks impacted more than just the United States. This book takes us all the way to picturesque Ireland, but even there, the horror of the past cannot be left behind, and an underlying dysfunction begins to ensue. This is a somber yet beautiful story and definitely one I’d recommend to anyone.
