{"id":106,"date":"2011-12-16T03:43:17","date_gmt":"2011-12-16T03:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jameslawless.net\/?page_id=106"},"modified":"2012-03-09T03:52:38","modified_gmt":"2012-03-09T03:52:38","slug":"ghost-road","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jameslawless.net\/?page_id=106","title":{"rendered":"Ghost Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I travel the road of ghosts.<br \/>\n<em>If you took the motorway you\u2019d be home faster.<\/em><br \/>\nI travel the road of ghosts.<br \/>\n<em>It\u2019s such a roundabout way.<\/em><br \/>\nWhat you say is logical;<br \/>\nyou are an intelligent man<br \/>\nbut still I travel the road of ghosts:<br \/>\nit\u2019s the pull of the umbilical chord.<br \/>\n<em>But really the other way is shorter;<br \/>\nif you turned off here and turned right there<br \/>\nyou\u2019d be home in no time.<\/em><br \/>\nBut I have plenty of time,<br \/>\nbesides I\u2019m already home<br \/>\non the road of ghosts:<br \/>\nthat white house on the left we just passed<br \/>\ncontains the ghost of my grandmother,<br \/>\nand that building back further was once a church,<br \/>\nthe church of Saint Bernadette<br \/>\nwhere my parents were wed,<br \/>\nand in the house across they lived,<br \/>\nperhaps where I was conceived<br \/>\non the road of ghosts.<br \/>\nThe cross is where the Winking Willie used to wink<br \/>\ninto the bedroom of my uncle\u2019s house<br \/>\n(he stuck his bare bum out that window once<br \/>\nat some inquisitive neighbours,<br \/>\nbut the Winking Willie caught him in the act<br \/>\non the road of ghosts).<br \/>\nThere\u2019s a turn up above<br \/>\nwhere my childhood ended<br \/>\njust off the road of ghosts.<br \/>\nLikes stick to like:<br \/>\nI smell their presence converging<br \/>\non the road of ghosts.<br \/>\nYou ask me to take the motorway,<br \/>\nbut the motorway has buried<br \/>\nall its ghosts under a tarmac grave.<\/p>\n<p>An English version of <a href=\"http:\/\/jameslawless.net\/?page_id=104\" title=\"B\u00f3thar na dTaibhs\u00ed\">B\u00f3thar na dTaibhs\u00ed<\/a> published in <em>Revival<\/em>, Issue 20, July\/Aug\/Sept 2011.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jameslawless.net\/?page_id=90\" title=\"Poetry\">Return to the Poetry page.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I travel the road of ghosts.
