\"9781782379966_1024x1024\"<\/a>I had a pleasant evening in the Wood Quay Venue last night. There was a warm welcome from Brian Kirk and his charming wife Laura and a glass of wine as I came in from the endless rain which we are experiencing at the moment — raining as usual, Mr Beckett in Dublin. The venue which is part of the Civic Offices is very interesting and indeed archaeologically controversial. It still has the original walls of Dublin — blocks marked with numbers which in our history have been reconstructed many times. What a suitable venue therefore to launch a historical novel, which was done competently to a large attendance by Jack Gilligan, former Dublin City Arts officer.
\nThe novel is a great read and well crafted with magical qualities by a talented writer. I highly recommend it not only for 9-12 year olds, its target audience, but also for adults who are young at heart. It affords, in its uniquely demotic approach, an absorbing insight into the 1916 Rising. It can be purchased at
