Christmas Eve<\/p>\n

The birds make fake bird songs
\nthat I heard in the Christmas shops,
\nthe fake moon is spotted before dark,
\nthe navyblue sky is waiting
\nfor its absence to be filled,
\nhouses stand like sentries,
\nmen in windows sharpen knives,
\ndogs bark at the fading light,
\nblack specks of carbon birds
\ncircle my head
\nbecause I am one
\nwho will not look up,
\nthe small boy counts down,
\nradio and TV hop with expectation,
\nthe weather changes,
\nthe bookmaker gives good odds on snow,
\nall is meant to change,
\nthe barometer moves up and down
\nthe human heart,
\ncloying melodies bring tears
\nto those who depart;
\nit is a time of arrival
\nwhere the moss grows green
\nand the harvest that was gathered
\ncan now be shared between
\nthe angels carrying candles
\nand the drunk who sways in the wind.<\/p>\n
