EASTER
\nA room darkened by rain and small windows
\nphotographs on a wall of the dead and the living
\na dead fly upturned on the windowsill
\nmist obliterating the view of mountains
\nleaves trembling in their new-born misery
\ndogs hunger, heavy clouds of sheep slow rolling.
\nIt is Easter, alone in a room
\npeople at church, he remembers the eve
\nsleep coming through the unsticking of lips
\nthe clock forward an hour willing one to life
\ngoing forward but now the rain is falling
\npulling him backwards, clawing at him
\nthe hands, he can\u2019t stop from turning
\nand all the dead, all the ancestors
\nhe thinks of those: parents, parents-in-law
\nthe dead in the old photographs
\ntheir must becomes tangible in the room
\nand people unvisited, estranged, that is death too.
\nYou should laugh more, someone said
\nwhen you laugh the past and the future disappear.
\nBut that leaves the present, the now,
\nwhat he sees through the window:
\ndogs unfettered, their fangs exposed,
\nattacking a pregnant ewe.<\/p>\n
